Connected device and IoT app development

We build the apps that sit between a device and the people using it: setting it up, controlling it, updating its firmware and getting its data somewhere useful. We work over Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi, on iOS and Android, usually alongside the client's own hardware team.
Projects that speak for themselves
What these builds involve
The work covers connection and pairing that hold up across older handsets and several countries, over-the-air firmware updates with fail-safes built in, and commissioning, diagnostics and data collection for engineers alongside a simpler mode for the customer. The apps work offline and sync when a signal returns, and a cloud portal manages the devices, the users and the data. Connected-device builds typically cost £40,000 to £100,000 excluding VAT and take 3 to 5 months; the cost guide shows what moves the figure.
Common questions
Do you work with our hardware and firmware team?
Yes, that is how most of these projects run. Blackstar's hardware team built the amps while we built the Beam app, and for Classeq we built over-the-air firmware updates for the company's own dishwashers. Where the hardware does not exist yet, we can specify it: we designed and specified Swigable's bottle for manufacture.
Can the app run on both iOS and Android?
Yes. The Classeq app runs on both, across older handsets and several countries.
How long does a connected-device app take?
Typically 3 to 5 months for a full build, at £40,000 to £100,000 excluding VAT. A prototype can be much quicker: the Owen Mumford app was built in weeks for a fixed event date.
Every project starts with a discovery, at no upfront cost.
