A mobile app to control it all

When EM Lite approached us to build a mobile app to control their innovative new EV Chargepoint for homes, we couldn’t wait to get started.

The app needed multiple user types, one for the installers to get it up and running through internal configurations, and then for the home owners to control their chargepoint.

We needed to work with internal IT and product teams, as well as 3rd-party suppliers for specific parts of the system.

The charge point has no screen, so it had to be done right.

A few problems we needed to solve

Smart detection of connectivity
Any time the chargepoint isn’t connected to the WiFi, users are carefully instructed how to connect to the hardware via a wifi hotspot locally to set it up without the need for the installer or customer support.

Intuitive installation guide
Installers are guided through the set up process, initiating the crucial settings to set and test against the correctly installed chargepoint and configuration with the home electric setup.

Easy user management
Users can configure different cars and charging cycles specific to their needs, with multiple users accessing specific data relevant to them and their vehicle, from single or multiple home chargepoints.

Team integrations
Closely integrated with internal teams, and protoype hardware, we perfected a system for all stakeholders that kept everyone moving forward without interruption

A deep analysis of the system uncovered multiple dependencies and use cases, a carefully constructed product plan was designed and user-tested
