A CAFM or CMMS system is only as good as the asset data inside it, and in most buildings that data was collected by a surveyor with a clipboard, typed up afterwards, and named however that surveyor named things that day. AssetSnap, founded by a facilities-management team with more than a hundred years of experience between them, knew the pattern from the inside: registers that disagreed with the building, F-gas and TM44 obligations resting on records nobody believed, and a surveyor’s bill every time somebody tried to put it right. They brought us the idea. We scoped it in a discovery and built it.

The app runs on iOS and Android. An engineer, or an apprentice on their first week, photographs an asset. The image recognition identifies what it is and pre-fills the record with the asset type and the details that go with it; they check it, add anything specific to the site, and confirm. Surveys are organised by job and by room, so a whole building gets worked through room by room with the status visible as it goes. It was built for use on Ministry of Defence sites, where phones have no connection, so capture works offline and syncs when a signal returns.

Data leaves as a standard export ready to load into any CAFM or CMMS system, or straight in through the API, mapped to the client’s own template. Behind it sits a human check: AssetSnap’s own FM specialists vet the data before it is signed off, which is how the product can guarantee a record rather than estimate one.
