In today's hyper-connected digital age, paradoxically, many individuals experience a profound sense of isolation. Despite the myriad of social media platforms and communication tools at our disposal, genuine human connections seem to be dwindling. This growing loneliness epidemic is a pressing issue that demands immediate attention. Linkup was created to bridge this gap, offering a platform that fosters real-world interactions and meaningful relationships.
Linkup‘s mission is to get people social again

A few problems we needed to solve
- Highly scalable user model
- Safety considerations for users
- Time based events and chats
- Discoverability of relevant Linkups
Using Microsoft suite of tools, we built and tested the system to scale big. A complicated microservices architecture that includes market-leading tools and services.
As well as a safety guide, Linkup only allows registrations by phone numbers, and advises people to connect to socials and upload real images. Locations are hidden until users are accepted to a Linkup.
Linkups are time-based, and using 3rd party systems for controlling things like chat, we built solutions to open, close, and extend group chats and linkup discoverability on the fly.
A suite of options are selectable by users, to choose what type of person and Linkup they’re interested in, as well as location and search radius options.

Linkup connects real people around real-life events
Working closely with the Cofounders, Ben & Jack, we created an application that is fully driven by UGC (user-generated content). It allows people to create accounts, and create events (Linkups) stating what they’re doing and where (roughly) they’re doing it.
People then request to join the linkup, and the owner can accept or decline if they want to meet them. Then a group chat opens with people in the Linkup and the exact location revealed.
It is being used for: travellers finding new local people, marketing meetups, crypto get-togethers, club nights, comedy nights, and for people generally looking for linkeminded people.
